Howling Tribesmen

The Uthuk Y’llan’s Berserkers Ravage Terrinoth

In the centuries since the First Darkness, the warriors of the Uthuk Y’llan have become nothing but a fearsome children’s tale to most of the inhabitants of Terrinoth. The great hordes of blood-crazed warriors and their demonic taint have faded into legend and obscure histories. Few details survive of the warriors of the Uthuk, whom many believed to be extinct.

The Uthuk are far from dead, however, and in the intervening centuries they have nursed their hatred of all others, even as the outside world has forgotten them. Amidst the savage wastes of the Ru Darklands, the tribes ready a new assault on their ancient foes: a swarm that could threaten all of Terrinoth.

Before you release your demonic forces upon the realms of men, take the time to preview the Berserkers Unit Expansion for the Uthuk Y’llan of Runewars Miniatures Game, available for pre-order now at your local retailer or online through our webstore!

The Ruthless Swarm

Tribesmen of the wastes comprise most of the warriors in the hordes of the Uthuk Y’llan, taking up whatever weapons they can find. In battle, the Berserkers are whipped into a frenzy by the witches of the Blood Coven, making them lose all self-preservation instincts and care only that they spill the blood of their enemies. This equips the Uthuk Berserkers with a special melee ability that allows them to suffer one wound in exchange for gaining the Lethal 1 keyword for the duration of the melee. However, this ability can only be used twice per attack.

Tribesmen are common in the Ru Darklands, and the Uthuk Y’llan are well accustomed to using them as sacrifices to the Ynfernael or murdering them for sport. With a cost of just sixteen points to field two trays of ravening Berserkers or twenty-seven points for four trays, it is a simple matter for a player controlling the Uthuk Y’llan to build a swarm of Berserkers to unleash upon the armies of the Daqan, the Latari, or Waiqar the Undying.

Reckless Rippers

The Uthuk Y’llan Berserkers become feral from infancy, battling the foul beasts of Ru Steppes just to survive. This ruthless nature reveals itself on the field of battle, and is reflected on the Uthuk Berserker’s command dial. Berserkers are constantly on the move, equipped with three blue march icons as well as a white march modifier. As the horde moves across the battlefield, there is some order to the madness. Upon receiving orders from witches of the Blood Coven, the Berserkers will reform or shift as one with their green movement actions, and receive a rallying cry to further boost their thirst for blood.

Notably, the Berserkers’ initiatives fall early in the round, with the ability to perform a melee attack at Initiative 4. This attack includes a bonus hit modifier, meaning they are almost guaranteed to cause damage to their enemies before they can retaliate. Once the Berserkers reach their prey, any battle can fall into chaos. This may spell disaster for an organized military, but it allows the locust swarm to thrive.

Strengthen Your Horde

The Berserkers Unit Expansion comes with eight unpainted miniatures for players to customize and two plastic movement trays to house them. These Uthuk tribesmen also come equipped with five upgrade cards to strengthen the locust horde. The Berserkers may choose to use their ancient link to the Ynfernael through the use of a

Corruption Rune.

As a skill action, which the Berserkers can trigger at any time using their white modifier, the Berserkers can discard the top card of their morale deck to choose an enemy. That enemy suffers damage equal to the number of morale icons on that card, then receives one bane based on that card’s type. If the morale card has the Confusion type, the enemy receives a stun token; if it is Doubt, they receive a panic; and if it is Fear, the enemy receives an immobilize.

Inflicting panic tokens with the Corruption Rune can make the Berserkers work particularly well with the grotesque Spined Threshers. Spined Threshers increase their attack prowess if the defender has a panic token, allowing your Berserkers to aid the rest of your army by sowing panic among the enemy.

Call Forth the Locusts

After centuries of lying in wait, the Uthuk Y’llan have finally gathered enough strength to enact vengeance upon the miserable mortals who forced them to the edge of extinction so long ago. Now, their forces are stronger than ever and Terrinoth is ripe for the taking…
