By Menhir Games

Eager Toad: Parallel to the development of the Hen and Chicks, the Engineer needed to create a branch of cheaper -in matter of energy requirements- creatures that could be produced in bigger numbers, so that they would become his shock force.Having always present that the creatures must be perceived as disgunsting, untouchable… terrifing in all senses, the chosen creature for this task was the toad.
With the experience gathered after twelve cycles of experimenting with tens of species, it wasnt difficult for him to repeat the process he did with the Hen and produce a big humanoid-faced toad matriarch that would be able to lay 3.000 eggs each four months (100 days).
This matriarch, that also goes raiding with the other members of the horde, was named “Eager Toad” due its nature of feelling eager to chew hundreds of enemies when it is not laying eggs. Also, because of its big and thick skull it is used as a living battering ram causing lots of morale damage in the defenders who desesperately try to bring it down.

Toadlets: The “Eager Toad” eggs are fecundated not with normal toad males sperm, but with captured Rusalkan Anuras, who already are anthropomorphous toads created by a Creature Patron during the Mashrieq invasion, giving as result a creature with a very energy-efficient body estructure. From egg to a mature being ready to be deployed there is time span of 3 months. These “Toadlets” are equiped either with a ranged weapon – Rib Crossbow- or a melee weapon – usually a rusty broad edged spear- to have their impact on battle improved.

Falling Hen: After ten cycles of testing the Stingers evolution and evaluating its uses, it was time for the Engineer to experiment with other creatures to keep strengthening and diversifyng his horde. This led him to gather female animals from the arounds to repeat the process he used with the elves women, with the necessary modifications. The first successful modified born creature came from an hen egg, but the creatures, even having Cthanneller blood, in mature state where elven-chicken hibrids with a small sized body and unbalanced composition. In order to produce a phisically effective action unit that also is  psychologically harmful for the enemy, the Bio-Engineer was delivered a living hen by their Stinger minions. He not only transfered his gens, but also transferred energy to make it grow and mutate becoming an enormous 10 metres tall hen with humanoid factions and extremeties that was later called “Falling Hen”, being this a wordgame: “Falling” is mainly used because the way it aproaches to its targets, looking as if it was about to fall over them and crush them, and secondly, because it lays eggs, lots of them, even in battle, where they just fall down out from its cloaca.

Flying Chicks: The Hen is fecundated with sperm of other male birds instead of the Channeller; this allows that from the eggs come out creatures that are more bird-shaped, but bigger and stronger than the average not-mounted flying creatures, being able to catch and hold a grown horse in their claws while flying. These creatures are commonly called “Flying Chicks” and are deployed in hundred to thousands -depending the size of the mission- to rush logistic strategic possitions, cut retreating troops way back to cities, harass ranged troops and destroy siege machines and other poorly armed units.

This set of models and personalities are part of Magrieb, the fantasy setting from Menhir Games (under develpment)  and features “The Bio-Engineer”, a powerfull renegade Channeller.
Hidding in the cold north he is using his channelled energy to mutate and turn natural creatures into unnatural horrible beings; a herd of haunting horrors used as tools to an end: punish the civilization, siege cities, overthrow empires, overturn those institutions that gives false power to the unfit… in the end: to hunt & devour those unworthy of life and persistence, to The Engineer eyes.

About 300 cycles (years) ago he was an Elf Channeller of the Erythrian Kingdom, who fought fiercely against the invaders that came from Mashrieq, the other side of the world. By the time the invasion was over he was still alive, with much experiencie, but more important: he had channelled a big amount of energy that was not used thanks to his efficiency in its use, which put him above the regular powered Channellers. In that time ocurred the meeting of the Patrons with the Primordial – the creator of the world, the sun itself- in the Pilars of Creations, where the firsts finally understood how the Energy Cycle worked and what was necesary to make to avoid the series of events that led to the Mashrieq invasion happen again. However, the Channeller – who thanks to his abilities was able to “connect” to the debate- felt shocked, overwhelmed… he already had his doubts and existencial questions, but finally acknowledging from the Primordial it selft was enought for him to spontaneously start changing throught cycles, loosing his identity and forming a new one. He left Erythria and all those who knew him, he didnt care anymore about any links, relationships, lighthearted emotions, his vision of the existence massively changed and with that, what had to be done. After 50 cycles of wandering, gathering stimulus and getting inspired around Magrieb, with his appearence now like aged, not cause of time, but for the depression, stress and heavy thoughts; he directed north, to the Khibiny Range, with the goal of finally ending his interaction with the civilised world.

Running Stingers: In his way to the north he crossed through his homeland, which even after 50 cycles of restauration since the Mashrieq invasion, still had scars, impacts that deeply marked not only Erythria, but all lands in Magrieb. Before crossing the top border of the kingdom, one night he visited a small village by the  Dauvaga river and abducted two elven women to use in his planned experiments once he arrived to destination. Three months took him to arrive to the cave in the mountains that became his first nest and experimenting workshop; there, he fecundated both elves and speeded up the gestation using his energy, making the women give birth in 4 months. One of them died in the labor, giving birth to a fetus-like beign, while the other woman gave  birth to two creatures of the same characteristics but one of them was dead. Considering his first experiment a success, the Channeller extracted the ovaries from the dead elf to use the ovules for more experimenting, while the surviving woman breasted the newborns for 6 months until they started feeding by their own means. During that time and further, the now “Bio-Engineer” made more efficient the gestation process, being able to fecund and mature the ovules in 2 months, giving birth to the same fetus-like creatures, but with advanced stage of maturity, requiring another 2 months for the “Stingers” to be able to hunt and feed themselves. The Running Stingers -name used by those who fight them… or run from them- are fast moving creatures, able to jump two metres high or five long to catch their pray, hold it in place by sucking its head and then proceed to repeatedly stab it with the stinger to drink the dripping blood and later devour the flesh and organs.

So in my little corner of the world we’re getting…

By Dark Tower Studios

So in my little corner of the world we’re getting about 76% sun coverage during what for us is a partial solar eclipse. It won’t be horribly dark, but I’m still going to be outside sitting by a fire and packing orders all the same!

Truth be told I’d be doing the same even if there wasn’t an eclipse, but it’ll be kinda fun if the light thrown actually makes a visible difference in the daytime ^_^

Have fun out there gang – and remember to be safe! Don’t use those goofy “slit in the paper” “hacks” …. they’re dangerous. Use proper viewing glasses or do like those in other parts of the world and enjoy the pics and vids online.

Cheers!
